“I like killing people because it is so much fun.”

The terrifying line that the Zodiac Killer sent to San Francisco newspapers. From late 1968 to 1969 the people of San Francisco were terrorised by the serial killer named the Zodiac Killer. This serial killer murdered at least 5 people (he’s suspected to have killed around 20 people) and terrified countless more. But what was most bizarre about this killer was his obsession with the press who he would send details of his murders along with coded messages (he used a circle with a line through it as his symbol) and even sent in a bloody piece of material from a victim’s shirt.

Many people have been questioned about the Zodiac Killing over the years, but the police are yet to identify the killer.

In Rochester, New York in the early 1970’s there were three brutal murder of girls ages 10-11. In each case the girl was raped an murdered. Each victim had the same letter starting their first and last name, the girls were also found in a nearby town with the same letter. This eerie pattern earned the serial killer the nickname The Alphabet Killer.

Despite no one ever being charged with the murders there was a very similar case in the late 70’s with apparent ‘alphabet killings’ too. For these murders a man called Joseph Naso was found guilty in 2011. Despite similarities police are unable to link the two.

The February 9 killer is responsible for two known horrific murders – both were killed on February 9th one in 2006 and the other in 2008. The first murder was particularly awful as victim Sonia Mejia was pregnant at the time.

In both cases there was no sign of forced entry and DNA was left at the scene. Police have been unable to match this DNA profile to a suspect and it could be they never find him unless he’s arrested for another offence.
