7 Unusal Things To Do On Halloween To Get You Scared

Halloween is really all about one thing: getting scared out of your wits. If there’s one time of year when you should pluck up some courage and do something that utterly terrifies you, it’s Halloween. If you really want to experience some thrilling frights this Halloween, here are some suggestions as to what you can do.

  1. Spend the night somewhere creepy

If you’re brave enough, find somewhere that absolutely terrifies you and spend the night there. Go camping in the local woods or get permission to spend the night in a place that’s got a reputation for being haunted, if you dare. You never know what might happen – you could hear strange whispering or unexplained footsteps…or you might actually see something that leaves you feeling truly terrified.

2. Hold a seance

Whether you believe there’s an afterlife or not, holding a seance can be a downright creepy experience. Even if nothing happens, there’s always a tense and creepy atmosphere. Seances can be held wherever you want, though of course holding one in a place that’s meant to be haunted will make the experience all the more nerve-wrecking, especially if strange things start happening. You never know if a spirit may contact you…

3. Play a scary board game

Get some friends together and see if you’re all brave enough to play a scary game. There are plenty of horror-themed board games – there are some that are traditional board games with a spooky theme and then there are others which people actually advise you not to play because strange goings-on have been associated with them.

4. Go on a ghost tour

Organised ghost tours take brave members of the general public around a site that’s supposedly haunted. You’ll be told all about the history of the site and the strange goings-on that have given it a reputation for being haunted, whether it’s sightings of ghostly figures, things moving of their own accord or creepy noises no one can explain. These tours usually take place in the dead of night and you might even get to capture some ghostly phenomena on camera.

5. Visit a haunted house

Many haunted houses are actually staged, with the ghostly goings-on actually put on by staff working there. Even though most haunted houses are staged, you’re bound to be scared out of your wits because each year they up their game, employing more convincing actors and better special effects. Of course, there are some haunted houses that aren’t staged – whether they’re genuinely haunted or not remains to be seen.

6. Watch horror movies non-stop

Go to the cinema and watch the latest horror film – there’s always plenty out for Halloween. Alternatively, you could have a horror film marathon back at home. Turn the lights off, turn the volume up and keep the remote out of your reach so you can’t fast forward the scary bits. To make the horror film experience even scarier, watch them by yourself so you’ve got no one to comfort you if the film gets too scary.

7. Visit a theme park’s Halloween event

For some people, going on roller coasters and thrill rides is scary enough, but what about scare mazes? Theme parks such as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park have several scare mazes running throughout October. You enter these mazes in groups and there are live actors aplenty ready to jump out at you, chase you and just make everyone in the group feel panicked and terrified. There are also scare zones, certain sections of the park where live actors dressed up as ghouls, zombies and the like wander round, scaring and chasing unsuspecting park guests. Many find these scary Halloween events to be more of an adrenaline rush than the rides themselves!

I'm a Classics graduate and have been writing for over three years. Hopefully going to go into novel writing some day. I'm mostly interested in theme parks and roller coasters - I've been on 300 coasters and plan on going on lots more!
