If you were fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to have a private education while growing up, there are a few unwritten rules and never changing themes that always occur throughout your schooling life. Here are 20 things all private schooled kids will be able to relate to!
Everyone Thinks You’re Posh
Despite telling them time and time again, when you mention where you go to school everyone will think that you are posh and a baller.
And That Means Owning A Pony
This will then mean you will be assumed to live in a mansion with a pony that Daddy bought you for your birthday.
Uniform Is A Must
You are sure to have grown up wearing some bizarre uniform that is really strict but you will try to bend the rules anyway.
And It’s Super Expensive
And it is mad expensive, this is the only time a skirt can get away with costing £80 and your parents will tactically buy a size that will hopefully last you your whole schooling life.
People Think You’re Really Clever
It’s a well known assumption that because you’re in a private school that means you have to be clever.
And Speak With A Posh Accent
Paired with private schools is the assumption you should have a really posh accent, so when you don’t pronounce your t’s you will definitely not pull it off.
You All Board
A lot of people assume that because you attend a private school, this must mean you board and it must be like Hogwarts! 1. Hogwarts does not exist and 2. No, not every private school ever is boarding.
Everyone Is Known By Their Surname
You’re more likely to respond to someone shouting your surname than your first name.
You Stand Up For Your Teacher
When your teacher walks into the classroom, it is the done thing to stand up and formerly greet them maybe even wishing them a good morning or afternoon – this gets very tiring.
You Don’t Have Years
Instead of year7, 8, 9 you had upper’s and lower’s just to make life a little harder for everyone.
Speaking To A State School Gets Confusing
However, this can get really confusing when trying to speak to someone in a state school when they refer to normal year 11 as year 11 and not upper 5!
Someone Famous In School
You can normally say someone famous attended or does attend your school, whether this is a footballers daughter, member of parliament or royal family.
Generations Through The School
Even if they’re not famous, whole generations of family’s will of attended this school and some of the teachers will be ancient enough to have taught you all.
Longer Holidays
You break up before state schools and often go back later too, this was always the best showing off point.
You Play Unknown Sports
You play crazy sports that most schools would never do, such as Lacrosse and Polo.
And Crazy Lessons
Yes this means, Philosophy, Latin and Fine Art. Only in private schools would you appreciate learning Latin and translating about Ceacilius.
Rivalries With Other Schools
Sports in private schools are taken very seriously and rivalries with other schools are huge. Especially the neighbouring private schools, hearing the sporting results in assembly was always tense.
And Houses
House rivalries will always exist, there is always a house that seem to be super smart and the house that somehow always wins all the sporting activities or the house that doesn’t win anything at all! This is why it was important to try and be in a good house!
Old School
Chances are your school is a large, very old building that is always freezing in the winter and way too stuffy in the summer.
Best years
Despite all the annoying stereotypes and old fashioned systems, you’ve got to love your years in private school as they were amazing.
