Now the British summer is coming to an end and everyone is heading back to school, we have had a bit of time to reflect on our summer. A couple of months ago we all had very high hopes for scorching sun and days wasted on the beach, however, this did not quite go to plan. Here are a few of those classic disappointing moments at the end of the summer.
No Tan
Unless you are the God of tanning, you are sure to spend a British summer remaining pasty and pale as there is no consistent hot weather to get that natural sun kissed look.
Tropical Beaches… Not
Even on a hot day, British beaches always remain to be cold! It is more windy, breezy and therefore freezy at the coast.
Not To Mention The Sea
If you are brave enough to take a dip in the sea then you deserve a medal! It is a known fact that the sea is always icey cold even on the hottest day of the year.
Spending More On Fake Tan Than Sun Cream
You’ll end up spending more on fake tan and tinted moisturiser than sun cream when in England, the sun is so rare that you’ll want to look tanned ready for those days.
What Summer Body?
Despite all the summer body hype, the ice cream seems to have been too irresistible and the smell of those BBQ’s are too tempting so out the window goes those abs.
Hot Cloudy Days
Over this summer we have had more than our fair share of uncomfortably hot yet cloudy days, that are just plain horrible.
Or Just Rain
But is it worse than rainy days, warm rainy days, grey rainy days – we’ve had them all this summer.
Cancelled Plans
Don’t plan any picnics, beach days or summer excursions as no doubt the British weather will cancel them for you.
Lack Of BBQ
There will be a disappointing lack of BBQ’s that you have managed to actually have al fresco! In fact us Brits more commonly think of BBQing as just normal indoor oven cooking.
Never As Good As Movies
Summer is never as good as it looks in the movies, with water fights, lakes and sun. Our summers are never quite.
Wishing you Were Abroad
Most of us spend our British summers wishing we were abroad in a sunny country where we could relax on white sandy beaches with blue seas, instead of being in England with merky cold water!
Jealous Of All Instagram Famous
All famous instagrammers always seem to have the best summers, with the best clothes and the best slices of watermelons. Unfortunately, this does not seem to happen for us.
Not Being Able To Wear Any Summer Clothes
Due to the lack of summer weather, we never seem to be able to wear those cute summer outfits we had lined up and spent far too much money on.
About A Week’s Worth Of Sun
In total over the 6 week summer holiday, there has probably been about a week’s worth of sun spread out between the rain and dark grey clouds.
Only Sunny Once Back To School!
The worst part about our British summers is that the minute we are all back to school, uni and work is that you can guarantee that it’ll be really sunny.
