Dreamworks Animation has produced lots of classic animated movies, such as the Shrek series, Home, The Croods, the Kung Fu Panda series and the Madagascar series. Let’s have a look at the studio’s upcoming films that are coming out over the next few years.
2016
Trolls, starring Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, is coming out on 4 November and its theme song ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling!’ by Timberlake has already hit number one in 16 countries. The movie is based on the troll toys and focuses on two trolls who go on a quest to save their village.
2017
2017 will see the studio release three movies: The Boss Baby is scheduled for release on 31 March, Captain Underpants is pencilled in for a 2 June release and The Croods 2 is set to come out on 22 December. The Boss Baby stars Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow and is about a seven-year-old boy uniting with his ‘boss’ of a baby brother to restore order to the world, save their parents and show everyone that love is a force to be reckoned with. Captain Underpants is based on the children’s novel series of the same name and The Croods 2 focuses on Ugga and motherhood, with Leslie Mann and Kat Dennings joining the cast as the mother and daughter of a rival family to the Croods.
2018
Larrikins is set to come out on 18 February and stars Margot Robbie and Hugh Jackman. The film’s about an uptight bilby who leaves the family burrow and ventures out on a musical adventure across the Australian outback. How To Train Your Dragon 3 will be the final film in the How To Train Your Dragon series and is set to come out on 18 May. Not much information about the third film in the trilogy has been released yet, though most of the regular cast from the first and second films are expected to return.
2019
Though Shrek Forever After was thought to be the last in the Shrek series, Dreamworks have since announced that Shrek 5 is set to come out in 2019, though no specific release date has been announced yet. This film is thought to tell us how Shrek came to live in his swamp and most of the main recurring cast are expected to return. Also scheduled for a 2019 release is an untitled film about the world of shadows
