Horror Villains can sometimes just be downright lame, but other times there’s no doubting we have a little soft spot for them either because they’re witty or funny but mainly because they’re so scary sometimes. Some of the most famous horror villains throughout history show more than just a side to them that involves killing people. There is often a sideshow as to why they kill or what they do when they’re not killing which makes us either empathise with them or makes us understand them better as an actual thing. However, some of the best horror villains are the best because they’re the sole reason we watch the film. Anyway, we’ve got a great list of the best horror villains ever right here. Check them out!
Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise)
Freddy Krueger is a name that everybody recognises from cinema horror history having terrorised people’s dreams not only in the movies but also in real life. With his infamous blades for fingers and his awfully burnt face, he’s definitely one of the greatest horror villains of all time.
Jason Voorhees (Friday 13th franchise)
Another name that nearly everyone should have heard of is Jason Voorhees. He’s a man who’s had way too many films based on him and has had one of the weirder storylines where his dead mother tells him to kill all the people. With the famed hockey mask and huge machete, he’s certainly not somebody you’d like to meet down a dark alley…or anywhere really.
Michael Myers (Halloween franchise)
The famous white face is something that surely haunted many people’s dreams back in the late 70s and early 80s. Michael Myers was so obviously creepy because he stalked his victims as they saw glimpses of him hiding throughout the day. He would then later pounce on them at night… when they’d least expect it.
Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was not only famous for it’s low budget, questionable level of gore and amateur film crew but also because Leatherface was apparently based on a true story. If this doesn’t make the chainsaw wielding, skin-ripping-off psychopath any scarier, I don’t know what would.
Alien Queen (Aliens)
The Alien franchise is absolutely brilliant, well… Alien and Aliens were the rest not so much. Aliens featured the Alien Queen, similar to the Queen Bee, she’s the biggest and baddest leader of all the Aliens. Just one small Alien was enough to terrorise a whole ship in Alien, let alone the Alien Queen in Aliens. Confusing titles, we know!
Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs)
The reason Hannibal Lecter is on our list is because he appears so charming and intelligent throughout the film and yet he’s killing and cooking people to eat them, obviously making him a complete psychopath. It’s a great role, played brilliantly by Anthony Hopkins.
Pinhead (Hellraiser franchise)
Pinhead by name and Pinhead by… well his head is full of pins. Pinhead appears in the Hellraiser movies and has a consistent feel of nobility and pride about himself. Some have compared him to Count Dracula in how he feels his evil deeds are a necessity and how he is a devious mastermind.
Jigsaw (Saw series)
Everybody loves a psychopath who thinks he’s doing something insane for a really good reason. Arguably the greatness of the Saw films is that those people are all in there for fairly decent reasons. However, the manner in which Jigsaw chooses to kill them is often not a decent way. Jigsaw is clever though and has coined the line “Wanna play a game?” which is used everywhere now!
Pennywise (Stephen King’s ‘It’)
Pennywise is arguably the reason people are so freaking scared of clowns! Pennywise is without a doubt the creepiest guy on this list, he’s someone who hides in drains and entices kids in with balloons and lollipops and then takes them and kills them. Just look at that face and those teeth for god sake!
Chucky (The Chucky Franchise)
Chucky is on this list only because if you told someone the premise of the Chucky films, they’d laugh in your face. However, after watching them you can definitely see why some people are now afraid to keep their eyes off their scariest toys at night.
