With the X-Files set to return to our televisions very soon, we take a look at the scariest X-Files episodes so far:
1. Field Trip (Season 6, Episode 21)
In this episode it is some evil, gooey mushrooms that are killing people off. Worse still, the mushrooms cause their victims to hallucinate. As shown by Mulder and Scully who think they’ve escaped the mushrooms but are actually still prisoner.
2. Theef (Season 7, Episode 14)
Orell Peattie is a super creepy hoodoo man who leaves bloody messages at his crime scenes. He has lots of voodoo dolls, and horrifically blinds Scully by stabbing one voodoo doll through the eyes with a nail.
3. Folie à Deux (Season 5, Episode 19)
It’s not the actual look of the bug monsters that freaks viewers out in this episode, it’s the fact not everyone can see the monster. Those who do see it and tell people are just deemed crazy people.
4. Detour (Season 5, Episode 4)
These bark people are terrifying. They camouflage exceptionally well and those red glowing eyes will haunt your dreams forever.
5. “Hungry” (Season 7, Episode 3)
He’s not evil, he’s just hungry! Yeah for human flesh. With those teeth and them soulless black eyes Rob Roberts is mighty scary.
6. Roadrunners (Season 8, Episode 4)
What’s not terrifying about big parasitic slugs? Apparently this slug is the second coming of Jesus Christ (silly Americans) and is being worshiped. This episode was so gruesome that even some of the cameramen couldn’t handle it during filming.
7. Via Negativa (Season 8, Episode 7)
Never trust a cult leader, especially one with a third eye. Anthony Tippet is able to murder people in their dreams – the kind of skill that makes you want to drink lots and LOTS of coffee.
8. Badlaa (Season 8, Episode 8)
This creepy beggar helped create one of the scariest X-Files episodes. This little guy would burrow into his victims and kill them from the inside out. I’m sure we all remember Scully dissecting a corpse only for this dude to pop out.
9. 2Shy (Season 3, Episode 6)
You will NEVER date online again if you see this X-Files episode. Virgil Incanto meets his dates with the purpose of regurgitating some fat-eating slime to put on his victims. He even thinks he’s doing his victims a favour by relieving of them from loneliness.
10. Chinga (Season 5, Episode 10)
Kids are creepy, dolls are creepy – put them together and you have one of the scariest X-Files episodes ever. Chinga and her owner Polly have the ability to make their victims harm themselves. Yikes.
11. Eve (Season 1, Episode 11)
Did we mention kids are creepy? Well twins are creepier. Especially as these twins are actually super evil despite acting all innocent. They even killed their own father.
12. Leonard Betts (Season 4, Episode 12)
Leonard Betts is a cancer eating mutant who can regenerate lost limbs – scary and yucky, yes? At one point his body – missing a head – actually leaves the hospital to grow a new head.
13. Home (Season 4, Episode 2)
When this was the first episode of X-Files to have a graphic content warning before it aired, then you know it’s going to be gory. The Peacock Brothers have been breeding with the quadruple amputee mother for years – don’t look under the bed. And watch out for the traps.
14. Pusher (Season 3, Episode 17)
Robert Patrick Modell is a super creepy serial killer who bends the will of his victims to make them harm themselves. This means that when the police arrest him he can force them to let him go and even convince a judge to let him go. Useful skills for a killer.
15. Squeeze (Season 1, Episode 3)
Perhaps the most memorable of X-Files villains, Eugene Victor Tooms is able to squeeze through ANY space, eats human livers (which he removes fresh with his bare hands) and will always be the scariest man we know.
