Things aren’t always want they seem to be, especially when it comes to everyday products you use. What you thought had a clear-cut function, actually may have had a different purpose when it was first created.
You’d never have thought there was a time we humans slept without pillows. The truth is, thousands of years ago in the the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia, people slept on the floor. Pillows were only used to keep insects and bugs out of people’s faces while they slept. They were generally made from wood, stone or porcelain (ouch!) are were never intended to enhance the quality of sleep. It was only during the middle ages, people saw the benefit of soft pillows, realising that having one was a much more comfortable way to sleep.
