People love a good brain teaser and seeing if they are clever enough to work out a riddle, sum or just confusing situation but there is a recent challenge that has sent social media crazy! This is actually a brain teaser designed for children yet adults everywhere are struggling to work it out or arguing about the answer, because it is that unclear! This challenging puzzle displays fruits as sums to represent simple algebra maths and basic mathematical equation work, however, many are not finding it all that basic at all! Is this because there are apples, bananas and coconuts and not numbers or is it because the sum is actually too hard?
No one is sure where this puzzle came from or who made it, which is why no one can decide on the correct answer as there is no founder to correct everyone! Can you work it out?
Let’s break it down for you and explain why this is so hard, firstly the top line of sums show that 3 apples added together to make the total of 30 which means one of the apples represents the number 10. Moving on to the second row of sums, there is 1 apple (which represents number 10) add two bunches of bananas with a total of 18, meaning each bunch of bananas much represent 4. Finally on the third row, there is a bunch of bananas and coconuts equaling 2, which means if the bananas are equal to 4 the coconuts must be equal to 2. From all this one would think that the final sum of an apple (10), a bunch of bananas (4) and half coconut (1) would all total 15 but people are arguing otherwise!
One clever clog said the final answer should be 14 as in the bottom row there is only 3 bananas not 4 in the bunch! Even though this seems to be the reasonable answer, there is still ever more complex answers stemming from Facebook users, solving the bigger puzzle or maybe taking it a step too far! Either way, this puzzle is very tasking and does require maybe fewer maths and more observation skills than anything, which is why people have been so stumped by it!
