The first death caused by the hoverboard has been announced in Britain, with the victim being only 15 years old. The teenage boy lived in London and was on his way home from his high school before sadly losing his life. He was travelling on his own hoverboard when it was clipped by a bus which dragged him underneath it. The teenage boy was found at 6:30 pm and was devastatingly pronounced dead at the scene due to serious injuries from being caught under the moving vehicle.

Since this horrific story, officials have opened their eyes to the sheer dangers of the ‘toys’ and their questionable safety. It could be argued that the safety is down to the person riding the hoverboard but if more deaths are to occur then there comes a limit to the toy.

Once more, due to the popularity of the product, a lot of cheap versions have been manufactured that have been said to be faulty and defective, with an estimated 88% of hoverboards in Britain being classed as unsafe for use. Once more, they are being banned on big name airlines now due to the risk of their batteries causing fires or worse, exploding. Some airlines are allowing them as checked luggage while others require the battery to be removed first.

It has also been recorded that three house fires were caused by the defective boards across the space of 10 days in October this year.

With all these scary facts, this might make you think twice before putting these dangerous boards on your Christmas list this year.
