Extreme Phone Pinching – What is It About?

There’s been a lot of internet trends that have gotten out of control. From planking to batmanning and even necknominate, these are things that have always gotten out of hand. If I’m honest, I don’t remember any coming about since the Ice Bucket Challenge, but that one always struck me as silly rather than uncomfortable. Phone Pinching, or Extreme Phone Pinching, is the act of gripping at your phone in perilous positions with as little of your finger touching the phone, before taking a picture of the event.

Most of the photographs that people have uploaded so far are of people dangling their phones by their fingertips above balconies, rivers, waterfalls and sewer grates. Where the started seems unknown at the moment, but it is certainly far reaching. Not surprisingly, there have also been people who have reported losing their phones, meaning that thousands of pounds have been lost by many during this silly venture.

Some of the photographs show that people have been getting pretty experimental with it, dangling their phone by even more precarious means, such as a plastic hand grabber over a toilet, or even taking the trend on the road and dangling their phone precariously over the road speeding past them.

If you want to see how unpleasant Extreme Phone Pinching can be, have a look below at the compilation that somebody has put together on YouTube. Feel free to cringe at the sound people losing their minds as they watch their friends take part in the trend and laugh your head off at those who get it completely wrong.

What do you think about this new trend/practice? Will you be taking part or is this one of the internet trends that will be passing you by? I have to say, I don’t see the point of the act, it seeming like a way for bored millennials to get their kicks without ever really putting themselves into danger. Write below in the comments to let us know what you think about this trend and how likely it is you’ll be taking part.

  1. Am I the only one that gets a shiver down my spine at the sight of a phone being dangled precariously over water?

Quite possibly. My soul does belong to Samsung…
