You may not be familiar with Rian Johnson’s work, but you soon will be when Star Wars: Episode 8 hits cinemas at the end of next year. Known for writing and directing critically acclaimed films like Brick and Looper, Johnson is a very interesting and left-field choice for directing a movie this huge. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited to see what he’ll be doing with the Star Wars universe. Here are 5 things to expect from Star Wars Episode 8 director Rian Johnson.
1. Awesomeness
While we may have expressed some reservations about the odd confusing plot point, we think that the next Star Wars installment is in safe hands with Johnson. He’s written the script himself, which John Boyega (finn) has described as “much darker” and Daisy Ridley (Ray) has said it’s “very good.” If J.J Abrams was the solid and sturdy director to reboot the franchise and get it properly underway, then Johnson is the guy to take it in in wildly creative, exciting and fresh directions.
He also directed the highly acclaimed “The Fly” episode of Breaking Bad. How he managed to make two people stuck in a meth lab with nothing but a pesky insect for company one of the most interesting hours of television is beyond us. That’s why we can’t wait to see what he’s got up his directorial sleeve.
