If you’re having a bit of a down day or you just need something to make you laugh today then we have the absolute perfect video for you. YouTuber Oleksiy Mishchenko has uploaded a video to his YouTube page of an Ostrich that ends up chasing a pair of cyclists down a hill.
It begins with just a singular cyclists looking behind him as you wonder what he could possibly be looking at. Then you see another cyclist come into view who is being rapidly chased by an Ostrich. Not only is this video absolutely hilarious but also a little reminiscent of Jurassic Park when they’re being chased by the Raptors.
What’s most surprising about all this is the incredibly long length that the Ostrich appears to be running at full speed for. The video is only 1:19 long, however, the Ostrich is running after the two cyclists for the majority of the video.
Something else that is quite incredible is the speed at which the vehicle or bicycle behind is going to have to keep up with the cyclists and their pursuer. Well, Ostriches are actually one of the fastest land mammals on the planet and have been known to reach speeds of up to 70km/h which is nearly 45 mph and are capable of covering 5 meters in a single stride. That’s an absolutely staggering speed for a bird that looks like it’s carrying an awfully large load of feathers and a long neck.
Other incredible facts about Ostriches include the fact that they actually own three stomachs as opposed to just one like humans. Also, lacking teeth means that Ostriches swallow pebbles to grind down their food and some Ostriches carry around 1kg of stones in their mouth ready to feed.
