It seems there’s hardly a day goes by without another headline regarding the reality star and former athlete Caitlyn Jenner’s amazing story of transitioning.
As anyone who has transitioned, or has questioned their gender will know, the road to acceptance is not an easy one at all and it can take many swerves and turns before the right track is found.
Caitlyn’s journey has been no different and in a moving interview with the Today show in America last week, she revealed that her recent transition was not the first time she had attempted to do so.
In 1990 she had begun hormone treatment and had actually started to grow breasts. Her chest had reached a size of 36B and she remarked on how happy she felt with her changing appearance and body shape.
But sadly, this joy was short lived.
She had ideally wanted to transition before she hit the age of 40, but meeting Kris, who she would go on to marry in 1991, changed all that.
“We hit it off from day one,” Jenner says.
“I was very honest with her. I had to be and I made this decision to move on with my life, Kris and I together with this family”.
Kris and Cait reached an agreement that if she wanted to dress up, she couldn’t do it around the house, but was free to do it whilst she was on the road and could take her feminine clothes and shoes with her while she travelled.
Jenner revealed that in order to continue with the family life they both wanted, she had her growing breasts removed.
Pictured before her transition in 2013, Jenner, seen here on holiday seems to thankfully show no scarring or ill-effects from the operation to remove her breasts.
Now Caitlyn is bravely opening up about the difficulties she has faced on her transitioning journey in a pre-recorded interview which will be shown at the 2016 MAKERS Conference at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. She hopes that by doing so, it will encourage others who face the same challenges to be more open about their own plight and perhaps to choose not to wait as long as she had to.
