The British superstar debuted her new bright orange do at the 2015 MTV EMA’s in Milan. Well, technically, its a sort-of yellowish tangerine colour, but for argument’s sake we’ll call it orange! We’re not sure if she decided to change her hair just for Halloween or if she’s planning to stay amber for a while. All we know is that this is a bold step for Ellie, who has always had platinum blonde locks. Luckily, it looks fab and fresh, and it suits her bubbly personality perfectly.
Ellie isn’t the first celebrity to don citrus locks. Quite a few famous faces have ditched their natural tresses for a ‘carrot top’.
1. Hayley Williams
Perhaps the most famous celebrity with orange hair is this Paramore punk goddess, Hayley Williams. Hayley has been sporting her pumpkin hue since the band debuted in 2005. While she has experimented with many styles and tones over the years, she has always reverted back to the orange we know and love. We think she looked best when she had yellow streaks across her fringe, as shown in the photo below:
2. Nicki Minaj
There’s also fearless American rapper Nicki Minaj. Aside from her chart-topping songs, Nicki is known for her outlandish fashion choices. It’s possible the Anaconda songstress has been every hair-colour under the sun, but We think this strawberry hue reflects her fiery personality quite well:
4. Agyness Deyn
Supermodel Agyness Deyn has always been one step ahead when it comes to style, so its not surprise she decided to go orange for a London runway show in 2008. While she didn’t keep this shade for long, we think it really complements her skin tone. Maybe more models should a lesson from bold Agyness!
3. Lady Gaga
Gaga went orange for a brief spell back in 2012 – although we can’t be sure her apricot hue wasn’t a wig! Either way she actually pulls it off quite well (but then again, what can’t she get away with these days?). We’re wondering if Gaga even remembers what her natural hair colour is. Perhaps her next persona should explore the ‘au naturale’ side of herself – if there, indeed, is such a thing!
4. Katy Perry
Orange was the new black for Katy Perry in 2011, although it wasn’t the colour she had intended to go. She sent a tweet explaining that she’d planned to go from jet black to platinum blonde, however she found that this wasn’t possible to do in one go as it was cause her hair to fall out (we could have told her that)!

5. Vivienne Westwood
74-year old fashion designer, Dame Vivienne Westwood, is known for her punk/new wave clothing range, so its only right she had a hair colour to match. Her orange ombre locks go to prove that age doesn’t matter when it comes to personal style. Recently, she’s been seen with a shaved head, but I think we’re all secretly wishing she’d go back to this sunny shade.
6. Cher
The ‘Believe’ singer appeared on American TV show The Voice with a shockingly bright orange do! Her hair was lightened by Ricardo Rojas, who is the personal stylist of Donatella Versace. Unfortunately, Cher’s shiny black mane has become so ingrained in our hearts that this doesn’t quite suit her.
