In Mexico, odd things are always happening and one of the weirder incidents unfolded last week when there were reports by the Grants, New Mexico, police department that a man killed his best friend for “turning into a zombie” after coincidentally binge-watching the series, The Walking Dead under the influence of multiple days worth of alcohol consumption.
The man in question was 23-year-old Damon Perry who apparently saw his friend turn into a zombie and so brutally murdered him. Perry was drinking heavily on Thursday 22nd of October when the incident happened and was hanging out with 23-year-old Christopher Paquin. Perry and Paquin were binge-watching The Walking Dead when apparently Perry saw Paquin morph into a zombie and then proceeded to attack his friend and beat him to death with his hands, knives, a microwave oven, and even an electric guitar.
One of the police officers involved said, “It was one of the absolute worst [crime scenes] I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been with the department for 15 years,” New Mexico, police department spokesman Moses Marquez told The Daily Beast.
Despite the craziness of the event, police say they do not suspect that Perry had any form of mental illness, however, the investigation goes on. The police believe the most likely cause of the random snap is the binge-drinking that Perry had been undertaking.
However, in case you thought that there are genuinely scary people out there, Marquez, a Grants, New Mexico P.D. spokesman has said, “He’s had the time to sober up and realize what has happened, and he has expressed remorse.”
This poses the question of how immersed in a binge-watching series you’ve ever been? Have you ever watched a series so much you really felt like you were in the setting? Hopefully, it doesn’t make you want to kill your best friend though!
