Halloween is upon us, and we’re sure you’ll agree it’s the one time of the year you can really get creative. Sure you could follow the crowd, look like every other witch, ghost, or skeleton. Or you could stand out from the rest by turning up in something more original.
Since the world loves video games, we thought we’d put together a list of character ideas for you to use or be inspired by. So don’t be a ‘n00b’ this year! Put down the scissors, step away from the white bedsheet and take a clue from one of these totally awesome costumes!
(Plus, if there’s a competition for the best fancy dress, you’ll want to make sure you’re in with a shot!)
1. Pac-Man
Pac-Man is a classic, and its a really simple costume to make. Even more fun if you can round up a couple of friends to play different characters. The ghosts are especially fitting for the occasion.
2. Ellie
From the smash-hit PS4 game The Last of Us, Ellie represented courage, hope, and general badassery. It’ll be an easy costume to assemble, especially if you have an old pair of jeans and converse in your wardrobe. (If you’re really brave why not attempt to go as a Stalker, Clicker or, dare we say, a Bloater!)
3. Street Fighter
Street Fighter is a great choice because you have plenty of characters to choose from. Whether you rooted for Ryu, Ken, Blanka or Guile, now’s your chance to live the dream and become the ultimate Street Fighter World Champion! (no RL fighting though please)
4. Chloe & Max
Life Is Strange took the gaming world by storm in 2015, and what a better way to pay homage than by dressing up as one of the game’s heroes. Whether you’re rocking Chloe’s electric blue tresses, or kitting yourself out with a messenger bag and Polaroid like Max, you can guarantee you’ll to turn heads this October 31st.
5. Super Mario Bros.
With all the hype over the new Super Mario Maker, now is the perfect time to rekindle the Mario fan inside of you. Grab a friend and become the most admired superhero pairing there ever was!
6. Bowser
If you’re looking for something a little more hardcore than Mario, then Bowser is your beast. Yes, the costume might take a little more planning, but think how awesome you’ll feel once you’re King of the Koopa!
7. Faith
A simple, yet effective costume to put together. Faith is a great choice because she’s full of spunk and attitude. All you need is a black vest top, red fingerless gloves, white cargo pants, red shoes, some black makeup, and you’re good to go!
8. Slender Man
If you’re looking for a genuinely scary character to be this Halloween, then who better than the faceless follower. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Slender Man is a supernatural entity derived from folklore, who has since appeared in several creepy video games.
9. Lara Croft
There’s nothing more empowering than a woman who can kick butt! Inarguably the most famous female video game character, this Tomb Raider heroine is a clear-cut choice. Find a cheap bow and arrow prop at your local costume store, tie your hair into a low ponytail, hunt down some camo-coloured combat gear and you’re good to go!
10. Link
If you can assemble riding boots, a green tunic and a Master sword, you’re well on your way to victory this Halloween. Yes, you may get mistaken by a few for Robin Hood or Peter Pan. But just remember, you are Link, a mighty warrior and the goddess’s chosen hero.
11. Lemming
Finally we have those lovable Lemmings, disposable heroes since the early 90s. Putting this costume together shouldn’t take a lot of effort. To make things more entertaining, round up a group of friends an allocate a different skill to each of them!
