Star Wars Breaks Record For Tickets Sold

Numerous sites have been struggling recently, many even crashing, as more and more news is continuing to be released about the upcoming Star Wars film that some have been waiting more than a decade for. It’s not surprising then that the film has also broken the IMAX record for advanced ticket sales, with single day pre-sale tickets bringing in an unbelievable $6.5 million which broke the previous single day record which stood at less than $1 million.

In the industry, the general rule of thumb is that a film will take in six times what it got from single day pre-sale tickets during the first weekend in IMAX. That means from IMAX alone, The Force Awakens will take in an estimated $39 million, not including the rest of the sales that will come with it, or the inevitable franchise and licensing deals. With the film set to hit theaters not long before Christmas, it’s not an overstatement to think that along with the ticket sales, this film could be shattering some records with the money it manages to bring in. While it was always inevitable the new film was going to be lucrative, nobody in the world could’ve expected these numbers or the ease with which it’s been able to destroy this record.

This ticket news also comes alongside the story that the newest trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was viewed 112 millions times over the course of twenty-four hours online, along with an extra 16 millions people who tuned in to see it on Monday Night Football. Along with the constant furor that is spreading throughout the internet, it’s probably safe to say that this one is going to be quite the box office smash.
