18 Pieces Of Technology We Think We Can’t Live Without – I Doubt Life Would Be Same Without #5

This is one of the most first world problem posts ever to be created. But whilst secretly hypothetically mourning if any of these items were taken away, lets also appreciate how much better life is without them. Do you remember life without GHD’s? Ah, too terrible to think back.

Smartphones

Quintessentially the most important piece of portable technology we own. This gives us access to the internet, a camera, a phone, many instant messages services, a Sat Nav and so much more in a tiny, compact little case.

Bluetooth headphones

We could probably live without these, but once you’ve lived with them its hard to go back. With decent brands, the sound quality is amazing and not to mention no more tangled cables.

Coffee machines linked to smartphones

Now, the smell of coffee can be a natural alarm clock. What could be better, honestly? With certain coffee machines, you can link them to apps and they will brew a coffee ready for your selected time. Magic.

HD TV’s

Again, not a thorough essential but the future of TV. The crisp quality of all the pixels forming a life-like image. We’ve come so much further from black and white.

2 in 1 tablet and computers

These are just incredible. Adding a keyboard to make a mini computer, which makes commuting so much easier.

Washing Machines

Before these we were washing by hand. That took so long. Also, we couldn’t reach the temperatures washing machines do thus killing more bacteria and making our clothes more hygienic.

Tumble Driers

Several amazing uses: warm up clothes on a cold day, dry within minutes, not as much clothes line use (especially in the winter), the clothes are crease-free after, so little effort.

Dish Washers

Before, there were piles of dishes all to be washed by hand. Similarly to the washing machine, the dish washer allows the dishes to be cleaned at a higher temperature. It also provides a more thorough cleaning cycle and uses less water than hand washing. Another benefit is washing the washing up brushes in there.

Wifi

Now, Wifi is deemed an essential. Before, there was dial up, then broadband now there is fibre optic. We’ve come so far and can accomplish so much with wireless connection at our fingertips.

Email

Email has been around for a while now, but still as essential. Whether it is a group email,  to forwarding hilarious spam, to actual business email is a central part of our lives.

Fridges/Freezers

This allows us to keep food fresh for so much longer, which keeps our food prices low and also provides us with a better standard of life.

Microwaves

Heating food up is a whizz, with a few simple buttons.

Kettles

Before, we would heat water on the stove, which would take longer and use gas which is far more expensive. Now, kettles can boil in a matter of seconds, which is impressive and energy efficient.

Satellite

Satellite TV allows us to access thousands upon thousands of channels globally. This has been a major player within the entertainment sector, but is at risk of us going for internet based viewing. However, as it stands it is still an ‘essential’.

Sat Navs

Do you remember A to Z’s? And how difficult it was to understand where you were on a motorway, or read a road name quick enough to establish a landmark? Also, the huge maps that were the size of dashboards and a complete hazard to the driver. Those days are thankfully gone, thanks to travel sized Sat Nav, which navigate us safely and efficiently from A to Z.

Hair straighteners

A shallow essential. These have been life savers for any woman/man who has ever suffered from frizzy hair. With the glides of the hot iron plates, the frizz is gone and instead stands a presentable human.

Air Conditioning

In times of great heat, air conditioning is an absolute must. It keeps us motivated, happy and our sim needs to a minimum.

Printers

The times before printers, when all homework was hand written and there was no hope of ever having a paper copy of an image on the computer.
