The Best Star Wars TV, Books and Games All Fans Should Experience

First off we must state that since Disney bought the Star Wars franchise, they have stated that any other form of materials other than Disney-produced content should not be considered canon for the Star Wars world they are creating. Therefore, we will state when certain content is pre-Disney and post-Disney to allow you to know which content may be used in the future main films.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know, ‘canon’ is the word used to describe when many different forms of media are written based around an already well-known story. It’s when you have content that has also happened in the universe. Enough about that, let’s get into the content you should be reading/watching.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (TV Series)

The Clone Wars series was one that got off to a really poor start. The first feature film was essentially the first four episodes in the series and it wasn’t hugely well received by the fans. However, having gone on now for 6 seasons, it has really brought some great stories to some new characters that are well worth waiting out for.

Star Wars: Rebels (TV Series)

Rebels was written by the same writer as The Clone Wars and was seen by many as a sequel by Disney that would then give them their own TV Show that they could call their own based on their new huge franchise. There are also neatly a few little pieces of canon that could well see it into the new trilogy beginning with The Force Awakens later this month.

Clone Wars (Short Shows)

Not to be mistaken for The Clone Wars, Clone Wars is a set of short animated episodes ranging from 3-15 minutes that look to piece together a lot of the story between Episode II and Episode III. Hugely well received and introducing General Grievous as a total badass, this is definitely worth a watch for any fans looking to have story filler.

Darth Vader (Comic Series)

One of the best things to already come out of the Disney-owned Star Wars world is the new Darth Vader comic book series. This series centers on Darth Vader after his failure after A New Hope and that means trying to get back in the Emperor’s good books. There are some great supporting characters and the thoughts of Vader truly depict the Vader we knew and loved from the original films well.

The Thrawn Trilogy (Comic Trilogy)

This trilogy is almost a must for any fan of Star Wars and any fan of comic books in general. The Thrawn Trilogy follows the journey of an imperial admiral called Thrawn who led the remnant of the Empire against the new Republic. It introduced many characters that are mainstays in Star Wars lore today.

Darth Plagueis (Novel)

One of the utmost greatest untold stories from the Prequels was the tale of Darth Plagueis which General Palpatine tells Anakin to convince him to turn to the dark side. The novel spans over decades from the rise of Darth Plagueis as a padawan to a master who becomes the greatest Sith Lord of all time.

Knights Of The Old Republic (Video Game)

This video game will forever be, for many Star Wars fans, the only video game worth playing. The storyline, the ability to learn many combat skills and much more make this a game that truly any Star Wars fan should play.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Video Game)

A more modern game that piqued a lot of interest was The Force Unleashed game that was officially commissioned by Lucas himself. It tells the story of Darth Vader raising his own apprentice who becomes incredibly powerful with the force, so powerful in fact that he sees light and becomes one of the only Jedis in history to return to the Light Side of the force from the dark.

Shadows Of The Empire (Comic Series)

One of the greatest pieces of expanded material from the Star Wars universe is the Shadows Of The Empire storyline that tells the story of everybody between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. With a great story arc, a wicked new villain to contend with and a brilliant way to transition between the two films, this is another great story for fans of the lore to read.
