The gaming world over the past half a decade or so has really exploded with online games taking over such a large part of people’s times. With gaming competitions having cash prizes of millions of dollars and there being talks of Sky and mainstream TV channels beginning to stream the finals of some eSports events, there’s definitely interest in the area. However, with gaming, there comes quite a few new wording terms that you’re going to have to get used to. We’ve decided to pick 10 of the most used and popular terms that gamers casually use when communicating.
1. 12. DRM
DRM is quite a modern way of controlling games. It essentially means that the game runs via the internet and uses servers on the developers’ end to run rather than the power of the internet. A lot of MMOs work like this as it allows the developers to easily add bug fixes and add content without requiring the user to download anything. Sim City recently received a long of grief for relying on DRM as the servers wouldn’t work and there was no way to play the game offline.
