Great movies have been left in the dust, while talented filmmakers, actors, actresses and beyond have been hung out to dry for lesser cinematic efforts. Maybe the buzz for this movie just peaked too early, but there was a swarm of industry whispers suggesting that Todd Hayne’s movie was a very strong contender for winning best picture. The film itself did split critics and audiences, but it’s pretty difficult to deny the sheer craft of Todd Haynes’ movie. That’s why it really is surprising to see the cult filmmaker left out of the best director nominations. Oh well, better luck next time, Todd.
