The UK is facing an obesity crisis, with one in four British adults classed as obese and our high levels of sugar consumption are partly to blame. The NHS recommends that you should consume no more than 7 cubes of sugar a day or 30g of sugar, though most people regularly consume more than this. Consuming too much sugar can lead to things like weight gain, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and tooth decay. There are different types of sugars in the food and drinks we consume and the type we’re being encouraged to cut down is ‘free sugar’, which is sugar that has been added to food and drinks.
