No this isn’t a zombie story or a woman who has risen from the dead, but actually a failed attempt at a murder which didn’t go quite to plan! A lady from Australia, Noela Rukundo was seemingly happily married with three children until the day Noela was accused of being unfaithful in her marriage and because of this false accusation the husband went to the extreme and had ordered two hitmen to go and kill his wife!
Noela’s husband had paid £3,500 to hire hitmen to murder his wife whilst she was visiting Burundi to attend her stepmother’s funeral! However, the job of the hitmen failed and Noela was never murdered because the men knew Noela’s brother so could not go through with the task. The ordeal began where her husband asked his wife to step outside of the hotel they were staying in with their children to get some air, she was quickly bundled into a nearby car with a gun to her head, she was then taken to a building and tied to a chair; the whole time she was completely confused as to what was happening.
She said, “They ask me: ‘What did you do to this man? Why has this man asked us to kill you?’ And then I tell them: ‘Which man? Because I don’t have any problem with anybody.’ They say: ‘Your husband!’ I say: ‘My husband can’t kill me, you are lying!’ And then they slap me.” The kidnappers then rang the husband to check the instructions were correct and they had the right woman when Noela heard her husband’s voice, “Kill her”. She then said, “I heard his voice. I heard him. I felt like my head was going to blow up,” she said. “I heard his voice. I heard him. I felt like my head was going to blow up, then they described for him where they were going to chuck the body.” However the hitmen decided to spare her and this is where the plot turns brilliant!
Noela’s husband received his punishment with nine years imprisonment for attempt on his wife’s life but first he witnessed her turning up to her own funeral just five days later, “When I get out of the car, he saw me straight away, he put his hands on his head and said: ‘Is it my eyes? Is it a ghost?’” she remembered. Her comeback was: “Surprise! I’m still alive!”. Lesson definitely learnt!
