There are few people who haven’t taken the odd selfie to upload to social media sites – it is the latest internet craze after-all.
But with this craze people are trying to take crazier selfies in order to impress their followers. There’s even the chance that they might go viral if the picture is amazing enough. Tragically this has led to people dying due to what is known as a “selfie death”. From posting selfies while driving to trying to take them from dangerous locations, the following people lost their lives due to their need to take selfies:
1. Xenia Ignatyeva – April 2014
The seventeen year old Russian amateur photographer fell to her death after trying to take a selfie on a railway bridge. The teen slipped and fell 30ft. She tried to save herself by grabbing nearby wires, however these electrocuted her with 1,500 volts. Her horrified friend witnessed the fall.
2. Ramon Gonzalez aka Jadiel – May 2014
Musician Jadiel caught his selfie death moments before his tragic motorcycle crash, he was just 27 at the time of his death.
3. Courtney Sanford – April 2014
Courtney Sanford posted a selfie expressing her love for the Happy song by Pharrel Williams while driving. Sadly she drove into the back of a truck just moments later and received fatal injuries.
4. Polish couple – August 2014
This selfie death is utterly horrifying. A Polish couple were visiting the cliffs of Cabo da Roca in Portugal with their two children. The family tried to take a selfie at the cliff edge but both parents fell to their death leaving their children behind.
5. Karen Hernandez
Karen Hernandez was just 13 when she experienced a tragic selfie death. She was standing in front of the El Tunal River in Mexico taking the picture when she fell in and drowned.
6. Deleon Alonso Smith – September 15
This selfie death will make you feel sick! Deleon Alonso Smith, from Texas, was taking a selfie with a gun when he accidentally let it off killing himself. He was just 19 and a father of two.
