10 of the Best (and Worst) One Hit Wonders – #3 Will Make You GIGGLE!

We all love a good pop song, and many of our favourites over the years have been one hit wonders – groups, or singers that had one famous song, then disappeared without trace!

Here are 10 of the best – swing your pants in style to these classic tracks.

  1. Althea and Donna – Uptown Top Ranking.

This was the duos only hit – but it went to Number One in 1978!

2. Trio – Da Da Da

This was a one off hit for the German band Trio in 1982 – but a big one. It sold 13 million copies!

3. The Firm – Star Trekkin’

A HUGE hit for this novelty band in 1987 – their other singles failed to chart. Wonder why?

4. Martha and the Muffins – Echo Beach

Released in 1980, it came from a full length album called Metro Music – but no other songs of theirs ever charted.

5. Dead or Alive – You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)

Watch Pete Burns before he became 98% plastic pop bottle. This was the bands only really successful hit – but a BRILLIANT one at that.

6. Black Box – Ride on Time

All together now “Gotta get up gotta get up gotta get up…”. The band’s one and only hit from 1989. It made number one.

7. Yazz and the Plastic Population – The Only Way is Up!

This was a one off hit for the strikingly beautiful singer in 1988 – charting at number one and staying there for 5 weeks.

8. Buggles – Video Killed The Radio Star

A huge hit for the inimitable Trevor Horn (in his own right a noted record producer), but a one off nevertheless

9. Men Without Hats – Safety Dance

A massive hit in 1982 – but a one off. Although the band made other records, this was their biggest and only success.

10. The La’s – There She Goes

An absolute classic that shouldn’t ever be forgotten. Released in 1988, and from a relatively successful debut album – the band didn’t have any more single successes.
