You may not be familiar with Rian Johnson’s work, but you soon will be when Star Wars: Episode 8 hits cinemas at the end of next year. Known for writing and directing critically acclaimed films like Brick and Looper, Johnson is a very interesting and left-field choice for directing a movie this huge. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited to see what he’ll be doing with the Star Wars universe. Here are 5 things to expect from Star Wars Episode 8 director Rian Johnson.
With the two standout films that Johnson both wrote and directed, Brick and Looper, Johnson was guilty of making things a little confusing at times. Brick’s film noire murder mystery and investigation was too confusing for my poor little brain to take, but I was 15 when it came out in 2005 so maybe I should give it another try.
On the other hand, Looper did its best to avoid (and even poke fun at..) the common tropes of time travel movies, but certain parts of the plot did still live my head spinning a little. With such a huge demographic of fans anxiously anticipating this release, we imagine that the studio will have made sure that the plot lines are in check, but we bet Johnson managed to slip a few confusing elements through the Disney net.
